Nagraj Enters the Garden

The next day, he changed into a serpent, and crawled through the opening. Once he had entered the garden in which the pool was situated, he took the human form again. Nagraj, a snake, stepped into a pool in the garden of the princess. He returned to the pool twice, on subsequent days. On the third day, the Princess decided to keep a watch.

The Princess Falls in Love

On the third day, when Nagraj entered the pool, the Princess stepped forward and as soon as she noticed his beauty, she fell in love.

Himal Learns the Truth

Himal sent a maid to follow the young man, who saw it transform into a snake and leave the garden. The next day, the maiden stood on the other side of the wall. She saw the snake leave the exit the garden through the opening in the wall. Princess Himal learnt about the young man’s identity and told her father that she will only marry Soda Ram’s son. The next day, Soda Ram was called to the King’s presence. Himal and Nágraj were married shortly and they young couple began to live in a palace built for them. This palace was located near a river and was surrounded by beautiful orchards.

The Arrival of Nagraj’s Other Wives

Nágraj’s other wives decided to pay their husband a visit. One of them used the disguise of a glass seller to sell her wares. The wives heard the conversation, and decided to adopt a different approach. The second wife donned the guise of a sweeper. She revealed to Himal the true identity of Nagraj.

Himal’s Life with the Snake Wives

Himal, still awake, saw Nágraj coming from the spring. She begged him to return to their wedded life together, but Nágraj said he was destined to spend his life in the realm of the snakes. “You can come with me if you desire to live with me. But let me warn of the danger of my snake wives.”. The snake wives decided to keep Himal as their housekeeper. They would make her do all the household work. One day they asked her to boil the milk for their little serpentine children. Himal began to boil the milk. But she was tired from all the household work. She accidentally knocked down the pot while the milk was still boiling hot.

Himal’s Resurrection

One day, a holy man climbed up the tree and saw the corpse of princess Himal. He prayed to Lord Náráyan and she returned to life. The holy man took her to his home but Himal had no memory of her past life. When Nagraj arrived the next day he noticed that the corpse was missing. The holy man had gone to the river to bathe and meditate, but Himal was home. While she was sleeping, Nágraj entered the room in his serpentine form and coiled around her bedpost.

हिमाल सच जानती है

हिमाल ने युवक का पीछा करने के लिए एक नौकरानी भेजी, जिसने देखा कि वह सांप में बदल गया और बगीचे से निकल गया। अगले दिन वह युवती दीवार के दूसरी ओर खड़ी हो गई। उसने देखा कि साँप दीवार के छेद से बगीचे से बाहर निकल रहा है। राजकुमारी हिमाल को युवक की पहचान के बारे में पता चला और उसने अपने पिता से कहा कि वह सोडा राम के बेटे से ही शादी करेगी। अगले दिन, सोडा राम को राजा की उपस्थिति में बुलाया गया। हिमाल और नागराज की शीघ्र ही शादी हो गई और वे युवा जोड़े उनके लिए बनाए गए महल में रहने लगे। यह महल एक नदी के पास स्थित था और सुंदर बागों से घिरा हुआ था।

नागराज की अन्य पत्नियों का आगमन

नागराज की अन्य पत्नियों ने अपने पति से मिलने का फैसला किया। उनमें से एक ने अपना माल बेचने के लिए कांच बेचने वाले का भेष धारण किया। पत्नियों ने बातचीत सुनी और एक अलग तरीका अपनाने का फैसला किया। दूसरी पत्नी ने सफाई कर्मचारी का वेश धारण किया। उसने हिमाल को नागराज की असली पहचान बताई। सर्प पत्नियों के साथ हिमल का जीवन अभी तक जाग रहे हिमाल ने नागराज को झरने से आते देखा। उसने उससे अपने विवाहित जीवन में एक साथ लौटने के लिए विनती की, लेकिन नागराज ने कहा कि वह सांपों के दायरे में अपना जीवन बिताने के लिए नियत था। “यदि आप मेरे साथ रहना चाहते हैं तो आप मेरे साथ आ सकते हैं। लेकिन मुझे अपनी सर्प पत्नियों के खतरे से आगाह करने दें।”

सर्प पत्नियों ने हिमाल को अपने गृहस्थ के रूप में रखने का फैसला किया

वे उससे घर का सारा काम करवाते थे। एक दिन उन्होंने उसे अपने छोटे नागिन बच्चों के लिए दूध उबालने के लिए कहा। हिमल दूध उबालने लगा। लेकिन वह घर के सारे कामों से थक चुकी थी। उसने गलती से बर्तन गिरा दिया जबकि दूध अभी भी गर्म हो रहा था।

हिमल का पुनरुत्थान

एक दिन एक संत पेड़ पर चढ़े और उन्होंने राजकुमारी हिमाल की लाश देखी। उन्होंने भगवान नारायण से प्रार्थना की और वह जीवन में लौट आईं। पवित्र व्यक्ति उसे अपने घर ले गया लेकिन हिमाल को अपने पिछले जीवन की कोई याद नहीं थी। जब नागराज अगले दिन पहुंचे तो उन्होंने देखा कि लाश गायब थी। पवित्र व्यक्ति नदी पर स्नान और ध्यान करने गया था, लेकिन हिमाल घर पर था। जब वह सो रही थी, नागराज ने अपने टेढ़े-मेढ़े रूप में कमरे में प्रवेश किया और उसके बिस्तर की चौकी के चारों ओर लिपट गया।
