Summary of The Barber and the Rabbit
The story is about a rabbit who asks a barber to shave him, but the barber cuts off his ear. The rabbit takes the razor and trades it for a blanket, then trades the blanket for ghee, and so on until he ends up stealing a horse and the bride at a wedding procession. The groom and his bride chase after the rabbit and the woman he has taken, and the bride knocks the rabbit out with a comb when they catch up to him. The groom and his bride then return home. The story is based on a traditional Indian tale.

THE RABBIT AND THE BARBER
Once upon a time, there was a rabbit who asked a barber to shave him. But while shaving,
the barber cut off his ear. “Take my ear,” said the rabbit, “and I will take your razors.”
The rabbit left the village and began to walk towards the farmlands. A little further on he saw
an old woman who was pulling grass with her hands.
“Take this,” he said, giving her the razor, “and cut grass with it, and I will take your fine warm chaddar or blanket.”
When she asked him why, he replied: “You have my razor and I have your chaddar.”
Then he went a little further and saw a ghee seller. “Take my warm chaddar and give me
your ghee,” said the rabbit. So saying, he left the chaddar and walked off with the ghee.
Not long after, he met a woman, and told her to make him some sweets, with the ghee. As
soon as they were ready he picked them up and ran away.
A little further on was a man with a plough, a horse, and a bullock. “Take these sweets,” said
the rabbit, “and I will yoke your plough for you.”
But, instead of doing this, he ran away with the horse. Soon after, he saw a marriage
procession, in which the bridegroom was walking beside the bride’s Doli. “Get on my horse:
why do you walk?” said the rabbit to the groom.
So the man got on, and the rabbit ran off with the bride. But her husband chased him on the
horse, and after a while, he told his wife that they would teach the rabbit a lesson.
After traveling a long distance, the rabbit and the woman reached a quiet place. They rested
under a tree, when the bride asked the rabbit to let her comb his hair.Now the rabbit was found of getting groomed. So he agreed right away.
But as soon as he put his head down, she gave him a severe knock on it, which stunned him. Before the rabbit
could come back to his senses, she ran back to her husband, and the two of them galloped
away to the city. Thus ended the adventures of the rabbit.
