Learn who was King Khatvnaga and how he helped the Gods fight the Asurs.
King Khatvanga was a legendary king in Hindu mythology who ruled the kingdom of Khatvanginagar, believed to be located in present-day Assam. He is considered a wise and just king, known for his devotion to Lord Vishnu and his staunch commitment to dharma (righteousness). According to the Hindu epic, the Mahabharata, King Khatvanga played an important role in helping the gods defeat the demons. When the gods were facing a tough battle against the demon king Vritra, they prayed to Lord Vishnu for help. Lord Vishnu appeared before them and told them that they needed the help of a warrior who had already completed his life’s mission and was willing to sacrifice his remaining time for their cause. King Khatvanga, who was meditating at the time, was approached by Lord Vishnu and offered the opportunity to help the gods. Khatvanga willingly agreed and fought alongside the gods against the demons. He was successful in defeating the demons and was granted a boon by Lord Vishnu, who offered him a choice of any boon he desired. Khatvanga chose to ask for the knowledge of his remaining lifespan, so that he could prepare for his death and attain salvation. Khatvanga is also believed to have achieved moksha (liberation) after his death and is revered as a wise and virtuous king in Hindu mythology.
