About This Episode
According to the legend, Hiranyakashipu was a powerful demon who had obtained a boon from Lord Brahma that made him invincible to all forms of death. He believed that this made him invincible and became arrogant, terrorizing the world and defeating several kings and gods. Hiranyakashipu had a son named Prahlad, who was a devotee of Lord Vishnu from birth. Prahlad’s devotion angered Hiranyakashipu, who believed that he should be worshipped instead of Lord Vishnu. He tried to kill Prahlad several times, but each time, Prahlad was saved by Lord Vishnu’s intervention. Finally, Hiranyakashipu decided to challenge Prahlad to a duel. Prahlad refused to fight and instead invoked Lord Vishnu, who appeared in the form of Narasimha, a half-man, half-lion deity. Narasimha fought Hiranyakashipu and defeated him, thus ending his reign of terror. Prahlad was hailed as a hero and his devotion to Lord Vishnu was celebrated.
