An Introduction to 6 Ganesha temples in Coastal Karnataka

The six Ganapati temples of Coastal Karnataka have been on my radar for several years, partly because of their resemblance to Maharashtra’s Ashtavinayak tradition and partly because they are spread across a beautiful stretch of the Karnataka coast. My own journey through these temples has happened in stages rather than as one continuous pilgrimage. In January 2018, I had darshan at three of them — Anegudde Sri Vinayaka, Hattiangadi Siddhi Vinayaka and Sharavu Mahaganapathi — and in December 2021, I visited Idagunji Vinayaka and Gokarna Mahaganapati.

Introduction to Ashtavinayak Yatra- 8 temples of Lord Ganesh

The Ashtavinayak Yatra is one of those journeys that I have encountered partly through my own experience and partly through my spouse’s. My spouse has completed the full Ashtavinayak circuit, visiting all eight temples, while I have had darshan at three of them — Chintamani at Theur, Mahaganapati at Ranjangaon and Varadvinayak at Mahad.
