Listen to the story of King Prithu and how our planet came to be known as Pruthvi. World environment day is celebrated on 5th June every year. On this occasion, we thought of bringing you a special episode.
King Prithu was a legendary king in Hindu mythology, who is said to have ruled during the Vedic period. According to the legend, he was an incarnation of Lord Vishnu and was born to rescue the earth from the hands of greedy and selfish kings who had caused her to stop producing food and other resources. King Prithu is often revered as the first king who ruled with righteousness and justice, and he is also known for his remarkable skills in agriculture and cattle rearing. He is believed to have introduced several agricultural practices and innovations that made the land fertile and productive. The name “Prithvi” is derived from the Sanskrit word “Prithu”, which means “the wide expanse of land”. As King Prithu was known for his agricultural expertise and is believed to have made the earth productive again, the earth came to be called “Prithvi” in his honor.
