Akshaya Tritiya or Akshay Tritiya festival falls in the months of April and May. Sun and Moon are said to be at their best during this festival, which is also known as Akha Teej.

It is said that the river Ganga descended from Heaven to Earth on this day. Kuber was blessed by Goddess Lakshmi and he was made treasurer of the Gods.

In Jainism- Lord Adinath (first Tirthankar’s) celebration occurs on this day. 

Rituals Associated with Akshaya Tritiya

Devotees of Lord Vishnu Fast on this day, and distribute rice, salt, clothes, etc to the needs. Tulasi water is sprinkled all around the house. In Eastern India,this day is celebrated as the first day of ploughing (Hala Khata).

Buying of gold is one of the major features of this day. Weddings, long journeys new business ventures are started on this day.
